Something - let's refer to it as 'real life' - has been running amok in the wargaming circles of the Lower Wharfe valley, with unfortunate consequences. However, a few of us did manage to gather in the annexe for an evening's Square Bashing.
We played a scenario which I lifted from Storm of Steel Wargaming (blog here and YouTube channel here) and then tweaked to reflect the troops and terrain which I actually possess. It was a good game, over in an evening due to some fortuitous dice rolling by the British in the countdown phase at the end of each of their turns. It was essentially a draw, with the Germans just failing to capture the crossroads you can almost see in the photo.
The terrain which I don't have is any ruined buildings, a bit of a necessity for the Western Front one would have thought. I have subsequently ordered some in the optimistic hope that their arrival will relight my painting mojo. Another purchase which I made a few weeks ago was a copy of the new '1918: Spring Offensive' rules.
That's a really strange cover if you think about it, featuring a sight that was so very rarely seen at the time. Anyway, they're an interesting enough read, but too complex and low level for me to bother trying them out.
