Did Marvell write a poem comparing the order and layout of a formal garden to an army, or perhaps a siege? I'm sure I heard it on the radio years ago, but have never tracked it down..
I suspect that you are thinking of 'Upon Appleton House'. I might return to this in a future blog post as there is a tenuous and tangential connection between the poem and me.
